Does it take up space like a normal app?

Practically none: a few megabytes. It isn't downloaded from any store, it's the website itself saved as a shortcut, so it doesn't take up what an app installed from the App Store or Google Play would.

Is it on the App Store or Google Play?

No, and it doesn't need to be. homeify installs straight from the browser in two taps, updates itself —you always have the latest version— and doesn't depend on a store approving every change.

Does it work offline?

Not entirely. What your home needs —chores, expenses, the shopping list— lives on the server, and you need a connection to see it and to change it. If you lose signal, the app tells you instead of going blank. Being able to add things offline is on the list of what we want to do, but it isn't there yet.

Can I install it on several devices?

On as many as you like, and you sign in on each with the same email. That's the normal case: the phone, the kitchen tablet and the computer.

How do I uninstall it?

Like any other app: press and hold the icon and choose remove. Your account and your home's data aren't touched — you come back through the browser whenever you like.

homeify on your home screen

It isn't in any app store and it doesn't need to be: it installs from the browser itself in two taps, takes up a few megabytes and updates itself. The steps for each device are below, with yours first.

iPhone

With Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox: since iOS 16.4 all four can install it.

1Open homeify.cc in your browser.
2Tap the Share button: in Safari it's the square with an arrow pointing up, in the bar at the bottom; in Chrome, Edge or Firefox it's inside the three-dot menu.
3Scroll down the list and tap “Add to Home Screen”.
4Tap “Add”, top right. The icon appears with the rest of your apps.

On iPhone, alerts only arrive if the app is installed. That's an Apple limitation, not ours: from the browser there's no way to send them to you. If your iPhone is older than iOS 16.4, then you do need Safari.

iPad

The same steps as on iPhone, but the button isn't where you expect.

1Open homeify.cc in your browser.
2Tap the Share button, top right next to the address bar (on iPhone it's at the bottom).
3Tap “Add to Home Screen”.
4Confirm with “Add”.

Same as on iPhone: without installing there are no alerts, and on iPadOS older than 16.4 you need Safari.

Android

With Chrome. It also works in Samsung Internet and Firefox, with the menu in the same place.

1Open homeify.cc in Chrome.
2Tap the three dots, top right.
3Choose “Install app” or “Add to Home screen” — depending on the version it's called one or the other.
4Confirm. It installs like any other app.

Chrome may offer it to you on its own with a prompt at the bottom. If you see it, that's all you need.

Computer with Chrome or Edge

Windows, Mac or Linux.

1Open homeify.cc.
2Look for the install icon at the end of the address bar: a screen with a downward arrow.
3If you can't see it, open the menu (⋮ in Chrome, ··· in Edge) and look for “Install homeify”.
4Confirm. It opens in its own window, with no tabs and no address bar.

Mac with Safari

From macOS Sonoma (14). On earlier versions, Safari doesn't install apps.

1Open homeify.cc in Safari.
2In the menu bar, open “File”.
3Choose “Add to Dock”.
4Give it whatever name you like and confirm.

Firefox on a computer

The one case where it can't be installed.

1Desktop Firefox doesn't install web apps, and there's no way around it.
2On Windows and Linux you can use Chrome or Edge to install it.
3On Android it does work: menu → “Install”.

In desktop Firefox, homeify still works exactly the same in a normal tab. All you miss is the icon and the alerts.

The alerts actually arrive

That's the real reason, and on iPhone the only one that matters: Apple only allows alerts to be sent to installed apps. Without installing, the bell works but you only see it when you come in.

It opens in one tap

Its own icon among your other apps, without typing the address or hunting for the tab. And without the browser bar eating your screen.

You don't lose your session

In its own window you don't close it by accident while tidying tabs, so you're not going back through the email link every other day.

Alerts have to be switched on once from Settings → Alerts inside your home, and the browser will ask permission at that point. We never ask when you first arrive: a “no” can't be undone from the web.
