Questions
- How is who-owes-whom worked out?
- Each expense is split equally between everyone and what each person put in over or under is added up. From those balances we look for the way to settle it in the fewest transfers possible: never more than one per person minus one. It's the same calculation homeify does inside.
- Are cents lost when dividing?
- No. Everything is calculated in whole cents, and the remainder of a division that doesn't come out exactly is shared out rather than rounded away. Splitting 84.37 three ways gives 28.13 + 28.12 + 28.12, which add up to exactly the total.
- Do you keep what I type here?
- Nothing is sent to any server: the calculation happens entirely in your browser. That's why there's no account, no email and nothing to accept. Close the tab and there's no trace.
- What if I don't want it split equally?
- This calculator splits equally, which covers nine out of ten shared expenses. Inside the app you can split by percentages, by shares or by each person's exact amount — and it's saved, instead of having to type it again every month.
What if it weren't once a month?
This sorts one split. If you share a house, the tiring part is having to redo it every month: inside homeify expenses go in with two taps, the balance updates itself, and the shop creates its own expense already split.
